Getting ready to go!

June 21st, 2009 — 8:24pm

Lily is almost 9 months old!!! Can anyone believe how fast time has gone?!? Its crazy. My sister-in-law, Stacey, gave birth to baby Kylee Mae on Tuesday June 16th. Its so hard to believe that Lily was ever that small, not that Lily was really ever that small (Kylee came into the world at 6 lbs 9 oz, Lily tiped the scales at 8). But to think that Lily was a tiny little person just 9 months ago is amazing! She is growing up so fast!!!

Lily is learning so many wonderful things just about every day. I have been giving Lily “puffs” they are these little things that are sort of like Cheerios but flavored and they mush pretty easily in her mouth. Anyway, I have been giving her these for awhile and she is doing great. The first couple didn’t go so well because she didn’t exactly know what to do with it once it was in her mouth, but she caught on pretty fast. So then, I was trying to get her to put it in her mouth and feed it to herself. She would pick them up but then drop them on the floor pretty much to watch it fall. Then, the other day, out of nowhere, she puts it in her mouth. Now she is a pro!!! She pops them in left and right. In fact, I have a really cute video of her holding puffs in both hands and not being able to decide which one she wants to eat. We also put yogurt melts in the mix, and she will pick out the yogurt melts before she eats the puffs. So she knows what she likes!

Speaking of food, she is doing really well. I still puree a lot of her food for her. So we have a freezer full of frozen, purreed fruits and veggies. She still loves her prunes! She also loves bananas, mango, carrots, sweet potato, and squashes, also she likes cottage cheese – who knew!. Really, the only thing she really will not eat is cauliflower – she will eat it if its mixed up with other veggies but not by its self. We try new things all the time. I think this week we are going to try some cooked noodles since she can feed herself… that should be fun!

In other news, Lily is wanting to crawl so badly! She can just about get into position but her legs are SO chunky that she gets stuck. If she is able to get her body weight over that thigh, she ends up doing a face plant and that’s no fun for anybody! But, actually today, she did end up on her tummy and was scooting herself backwards, which is very frustrating to her because then her toys get farther away, but she was doing this and did manage to get her knees underneath her. She does rock when she gets in position so I think we are getting pretty close!

On that same token, she is also a champ at standing! She LOVES to hold your hands and be standing. I think she would stand all day if we would help her. She is also a bit of a daredevil though because she thinks she can stand and doesn’t need your help so she just lets go. I have a feeling she is going to be a very independant person and around year 2 we are going to hear a lot of “mommy, I can do it!”

Lily has learned to pull up to standing. So far she only knows she can do it using one toy but I’m sure she will start trying everything in sight really soon. We do have video of this too! I’m going to have to ask josh how to post videos on here. Its really easy on facebook but for some reason I think we were having issues here.

Torticollis update – Lily is still going to physical therapy once a week. About 6 weeks ago the therapist recommended that we start using a TOT collar. Basically its two tubes that go around her neck and then there are these “stops.” They go near her ear. The point of it is that it will stop her from tilting her head and encourage her to keep her head in the middle (straight). So it took me a while to decide if this was something I wanted to do or if we should just keep with the therapy and do a better job with the stretches and exercises at home. Well after some research we decided to do it. The therapist told me that usually insurance won’t cover it and we’ll just have to buy it. So I buy one online and in the process I’m thinking that this is rediculous and insurance should pay for it because we have been doing everything we were supposed to and the physical therapist was recommending it. So after two weeks of going back and forth, they approved it! YAy! Until I call the medical supply store… because its used and approved SO rarely they (a) don’t carry it and (b) aren’t even sure if they can get it in. So as of Friday, the guy at the medical supply store is talking to his supervisor and he’s supposed to call me back. Mind you, I have one that I ordered sitting at our house, not even opened!!! The insurance will not reimburse me because the company I got it from is out of network. So, basically, we are still waiting. Hopefully we get all of that figured out soon so we can start using it!!!

We have the appointment with the pulmonologist tomorrow morning and then her 9 month check up next Monday!
