Happy Halloween

October 31st, 2008 — 9:40pm

Our little monkey is growing so fast (you have to see her while we are getting her to burp to understand the monkey-ness)!!! Lily had a Dr’s appointment today and it went very well! She is now 9 pounds 8 ounces and 21 inches long. The Dr is not worried about her weight anymore so that is great. Lily eats about every 2-3 hours. At night she goes about 3-3 and half but often wakes herself up because she is grunting. We don’t know what this grunting is all about but I’m hoping she stops soon and starts sleeping longer. The Dr said that we do not have to wake her up to feed her anymore, so let her sleep as long as she wants. We are hoping this means “through the night” even if that is only a 5 hour stretch! I’m sure we will update you when this actually happens. However, I did recently talk to Gram and she said that my dad didn’t sleep through the night until he was one – we are hoping that doesn’t run in the family :)

Lily is also getting very strong. She was showing off her strong neck to the Dr today. She can hold her head up pretty well and she loves to look at faces. One of these days she is going to smile at me, and I can’t wait! For now, she smiles at herself in the mirror.

Lily will start at daycare on the 11th. I spent some time in the infant room last week and got to know her primary caregiver. She is very nice and she is excited to have such a small baby to hold and cuddle with. The daycare is affiliated with the hospital and is very close to my office so I can run over and see her on my lunch. They also have webcams so Josh will be able to see her whenever he wants. Its going to be hard to leave her there the first few times I’m sure, but we will all adjust and Lily will make some friends.

I think that is it for now. We are still adding pictures all of the time so keep checking! Lily’s next Dr’s appointment is December 1st and she will get shots :(

Lily is almost 4 weeks old!

October 25th, 2008 — 9:39pm

Lily is almost 4 weeks old! It really seems like we just came home from the hospital and were trying to figure out what we are supposed do to with this new little person. Now she has been home with us for three weeks and we still don’t know what we are doing. We are getting better though. Lily is a great baby! She is very easily consolable. If she’s crying or getting fussy we change her, swaddle her or feed her. One of those almost always works. Although, sometimes she just wants to be held.

We have had a couple of Dr’s appointments since being home. Lily didn’t gain as much weight as the Dr wanted her to at her first visit so we went back for a second. In the mean time, she and I went to the breastfeeding clinic to make sure we were doing everything right. We sat there “feeding” for 20 minutes and then they weighed her and found out she had only gotten a half an ounce. This explained why she wasn’t gaining any weight. So they helped us out and we got back on track. When we went back to the Dr she had gained a little weight but still not the ounce per day they were looking for, so we scheduled another appointment. Finally, by two weeks, Lily was 2 ounces shy of her birth weight and we took that as a good sign. Our next appointment is Oct 31st! I told the receptionist that Lily will be dressed in her super Halloween gear for that appointment!

Lily is getting so strong. When she is on her tummy she can lift her head and turn it to the other side! We are so proud! We have some pictures of her doing that posted already.

Everyone keeps asking if we are getting any sleep and the answer is… well… some. She usually eats about every 3 hours. By the time we feed her and get her back to sleep at night, there’s about a 2 hour span. Last night I fed her and got her to sleep in a half an hour, it was very exciting!!!

Things Are Good

October 9th, 2008 — 9:37pm

Can you believe that Lily is a week old??? We certainly cannot! A week ago my mom and Sean were in from Arizona and we were planning on having lunch with Kenzia and Jack at Chili’s the next day. Well we made it to Chili’s and Lily decided to join us just a few hours later. We are all doing well. I am starting to feel better and I think I might be getting the hang of this breast feeding thing. It has been a little frustrating but Lily and I are learning together.

Lily had her first Dr’s appointment on last Friday. We go to church with her pediatrician and I had some grad school classes with her husband so we were very comfortable with her. Lily is doing well. Her weight had continued to drop so we went back on Monday for a weight check and she gained and ounce. She has been eating about every 3 hours during the day and 4 hours at night! What a trooper! We have another weight check on Monday.

Life has certainly changed for us. We are enjoying every minute of her while she is so tiny. We have only known her for just over a week but I feel like we have learned so much about her already. She makes the cutest faces when she sleeps and gets the hiccups a couple times a day. She really does not like to have her diaper changed but loves to be swaddled. She definitely recognizes mine and Josh’s voices but loves to be held no matter who is doing the holding.

We are taking pictures all of the time because we know she is going to change so fast! In fact we just added to the family portraits album – check it out.
