6 Month Check Up

March 30th, 2009 — 9:32pm

Lily is 6 months old! I was just telling someone, I can’t remember who now, that a year ago at this time I still had  6 months to go before Lily’s due date and that time went SO slow. But now this past 6 months, now that she is here, has just flown by! We have celebrated Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New years, both mine and Josh’s birthdays, Valentines day and Easter is almost here!

So we had Lily’s 6 month appointment today and she is looking great! She is up to a little over 15 pounds now and almost 25 inches long. I just found the percentile chart and it looks like she is in the 10th percentile for length and 10-15 weight. The Dr is not concerned at all. I was actually not surprised by this at all because at daycare they always call her “petite.” That just makes me laugh because the girl has some legs!!! But she is definitely smaller than some of the other kids her age.

As you may have heard rice cereal and oatmeal did not go over well with Lily. Today we got the ok to start “1st foods.” Woo hoo! We tried grean beans this evening and it actually didn’t go too badly. Josh took some pictures so we’ll try to get those up soon. I am doing some research about pureeing and making our own baby food. We’ll see how long that lasts! But I figured I would try.

Let’s see what else is she doing? She can roll from her back to tummy and she rolled from her tummy to her back this morning. She did that right before we went to the Dr so that was nice! Physical therapy is going really well. She gets stronger every week and the physical therapist is amazed with her progress. She can sit up by herself, she still gets a little wobbly so we catch her when she starts to topple.

Her favorite toys right now are rattles and paper. Who needs toys that have flashy lights and music? Not Lily. She also loves the jumparoo!

She giggles and laughs all the time now which is just the best! Our favorite thing that she does is her “sneeze.” Its hard to explain and I’m going to try to get it on video but if we say Ah-Choo and close your eyes like you are sneezing, then she will blink her eyes and grunt. Not quite the same thing but she definitely does it in response to our sneeze. Its great! We were telling the Dr about it and I think she thought we were nuts but then she did it ! Little show off.

We’ll keep you updated on how the food situation goes, hopefully better than rice and oatmeal.

Wow! It’s been awhile!

March 9th, 2009 — 9:18pm

So I was talking with Aunt Lori the other day, a frequent visitor of the site, and realized that we haven’t had an update in awhile… and a lot has happened so I figured I better get on it!

First and foremost, Lily is doing great! She had another cold and we went to the Dr twice last week but she fought it off much better this time around. Luckily (or not), we still had the apnea monitor and it did go off more when she was sick. The Dr was not concerned about this at all and pretty much expected it. Lily is still a little wheezy but overall doing much better. I actually returned the monitor this afternoon. She hasn’t had it on the past couple of nights and it was time to let it go. YAY!!! I think tomorrow she will return to sleeping in her crib in her room, so that will be another adjustment but I think we can handle it.

Other exciting news is that she rolled over!!! She has only done it once but at least we know she can do it. She rolled from her back to her tummy as she was reaching for her binky. Josh and I were so excited and we celebrated a little too loudly. We scared her, she rolled back and then started crying. Oops! We are still going to physical therapy once a week to work on her strength. She is doing really well and can turn her head all the way to the right, now we just have to work on the tilt. We can tell when she is getting tired because its a really exaggerated tilt compared to when she holds it straight/midline. We’ll keep going until we get this figured out!

Rice cereal update: well…. its ok. After the first couple of bites we told you about in the last update she would start screaming whenever it hit her lips. Then she would just make faces and chipmunk it in her cheeks. Finally she was starting to get the hang of it and she got sick. So we stopped for about a week or so now because she was just too congested and had too much going on. I gave her a little more today and she seems to be starting where she left off, so that’s good. We have her 6 month appointment at the end of this month and will talk about fruits and veggies.

Let’s see… I think that is pretty much it for now. We are taking videos and Josh says he can “convert” them to get them on the website now so hopefully that will happen soonish because they are stinkin’ cute! I’m pretty sure I’m forgetting something but I can’t think of it, so I’ll do another update if it comes to me!
