Perfect Heart

February 16th, 2009 — 9:11pm

Just after Valentine’s Day we find out Lily’s heart is perfect! We had an appointment with the pediatric cardiologist today and all checked out well.  The three of us traveled to Peoria to Children’s Memorial Hospital. After numerous people helping us navigate the campus we found the cafeteria and the Dr’s office. Lily’s apnea monitor results were reviewed and they did another EKG. We met with the Dr who said that everything is fine. He said that her EKG was normal and the alarm was normal as well. Even though it went off 47 times we learned that it may have been more beneficial if the monitor had alarmed when she dropped below 60 beats per minute versus the 80 that it was set at. But regardless, they are not concerned at all. The Dr is going to wean me off of the apnea monitor. I am attached to it at this point, because I know that if something happens the alarm will go off and we will wake up. I was really nervous about just taking it off. So we are going to reset it to alarm when she drops below 60 bpm and she only has to wear it at night. It was great to hold her and play with her without having to worry about where the cord is.

Other very exciting milestones – Lily had her first spoonful of rice cereal today! Granted it was really more like breastmilk with a little bit of cereal in it but it was still a first and she had it on a spoon. She rolled it around in her mouth for a little while but she did eventually swollow it. Very exciting! I even took a picture!

Also, we have been trying the sippy cup. She had no problem figuring it out and getting some water out, however she was not thrilled that it was water. She would start to swollow and then realize what she was tasting and then spit it out. Pretty funny, we’ll get there!

She is sitting up in the exersaucer really well and loves to stand when you are holding her up. She is getting SO strong!

Back to normal life

HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY TO HAILEY ON FEBRUARY 4th!

Yes, I know that was yesterday, but we had so much fun at her birthday party that I just got it up now! Lily attended Hailey’s first birthday party last night. We weren’t sure if we were going to bring her but decided that we just couldn’t miss such an important day! I think Lily was a little bummed that she couldn’t have any pizza or Disney Princess cupcakes but I assured her that next year she can eat all she wants.

Lily’s 4 month appointment/follow up appointment from the hospital went very well. Her lungs sound much better and she definitely does not have to work as hard to breathe. We talked about starting foods and decided that we are going to make sure that she is completely over this RSV before we do that. But in a couple of weeks or so we are going to try some rice cereal! Very exciting!!! Josh is not as excited about this as I am but he will be as soon as he sees the fun faces she is going to make! We’ll do the rice cereal for a couple of months and hold off on fruits and veggies until our 6 month appointment.

We also talked about getting her ears pierced – after she’s a year old, her torticollis – she is going to physical therapy once a week now, and vaccinations – she received a couple more at this visit.

We have been doing well with the apnea monitor at home. In fact, it has not gone off at all the past two nights! So that is hopefully a really great sign! Lily is still able to do all the fun stuff that she normally would and we have even started putting her in the exersaucer. At first she would just sit in there and looked scared to death. But now she sits up and looks around at all the fun stuff. She even managed to turn her self around the other day. There is a sun with a smiley face that just cracks her up. We even heard her first giggle when she was in the exersaucer. We are trying to get that on video but haven’t been able to catch it yet.

Speaking of videos, I haven’t figured out how to get them on the website yet. I did get them on facebook, so I must be getting close.

I’m sure I’m forgetting something but that’s about it for now. Our appointment with the Pediatric Cardiologist is February 16th. We’ll keep you updated.
