Our Anniversary Trip

June 14th, 2008 — 8:26pm

We have been back from our vacation for awhile now but still haven’t written an update. So, here we go. We flew from Chicago to Baltimore Maryland and then drove about an hour and a half to Hershey PA. Josh got a TomTom for Christmas and we brought it with us, that was the best idea ever!!! Once we finally found the Hershey Lodge we checked in and received two Hershey bars! What a great start. Our room was cute and had Hershey kiss wallpaper. By the time we arrived in Hershey only the Hershey Gardens were open, so we went there. Mrs Hershey loved roses and the Hershey Gardens would have been full of them… had they been in bloom yet. Most of the gardens were still green but we did see the occassional bud or bloom. We ate at the Hershey Grill were they gave us a handful of Hershey kisses with the check instead of mints. Finally, we planned our next day and headed to bed in Hershey.

Day two included the Hershey Factory, Hershey Park and Hershey Zoo. Hershey factory was interesting. I’m pretty sure they had every product Hershey ownsavailable to buy… including the 5lb Hershey Bar (which we had already experienced as a Christmas present). Unfortunately it was raining ALL day long and Hershey Park and Hershey Zoo were both outside. That didn’t stop us though. It did however make most of the animals hide inside so it wasn’t the most exciting zoo experience ever. Finally, we ate at the Hershey Bear’s Bar and Grille and again, another handful of kisses.

Day three we checked out of the Hershey Lodge and headed for Niagara Falls Canada. It was a 7 and a half hour drive through PA and NY. It was beautiful! It rained off and on but for the most part it was a really nice drive. Josh would probably disagree with me though, he hates car rides. Again with the wonderul assistance of the TomTom or as we have named her, Norma, we made it to the Embassy Suites in Niagara Falls Onterio. We checked in but did not get Hershey bars. Our room was fabulous! It was a fallsview room which made us not even want to leave. We could see both the American Falls and the Canadian Falls.

Day four, rain again! We braved the rain and headed down to where the Maid of the Mist loads. We both got our staple blue Maid of the Mist ponchos and hopped aboard. Then the boat took off. We gently passed the American Falls and headed for the Horseshoe Falls (the Canadian Falls). The boat then sits in the middle of the horseshoe for what seems like forever but was probably about 10 minutes. We couldn’t see anything! Between the rain and the mist from the Falls it was impossible. We did manage to get a couple of pictures, though I was yelling at Josh because we just got this camera and I didn’t want it to get ruined. After our Maid of the Mist adventure we shopped for souveniers. We wondered around for the rest of the afternoon and ate a late lunch at the buffet in the casino. Boy did we eat! We walked around a little more and then called it a day. That night there were fireworks over the falls. We didn’t even have to leave our room. It was great!

Day five we were on our way home. We travelled back to Buffalo NY airport where we flew home, picked up our car and drove to Urbana. It was quite a long day but we made it. So that is basically how our anniversary vacation went. There were ups and downs but we had a great time!
